The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) is hosting its 17th World Championship in Doha, Qatar. Here is the rundown for the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships.

It began on Friday Sept. 27 and will end Sunday Oct. 6. During the competition, the best track and field athletes from around the world are competing head-to-head. On the opening day, Liberia’s 100 meter record holder, Emmanuel Matadi raced. Thankfully, he advanced to the second round with 10.19 seconds. However, Matadi did not advance to the finals. Although he did not qualify for the final round, Matadi’s 2019 season has been great. This year, he set a new personal and Liberian 100 meter record — 10.01 seconds. He also qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

After his race in Doha, Matadi took to social media to reflect on his year and thank everyone who has supported him. He closed his note with, “next up 2020 olympics … God is good.”
