The saying “Ball is Life” isn’t just meant for the basketball court. For example, three young ladies from the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) in the USA, are making sure the mantra can apply to academics. Through a project called, Rebound Liberia, the Penn trio are planning to use basketball as a personal development tool. Specifically, the project will target young Liberian women and girls.
Princess Aghayere, Summer Kollie and Oladunni Alomaja won the President’s Engagement Prize at their university. The prize offers $100,000 (US) to create a project that will have a lasting positive difference in the world. In addition to the project money, the president awarded each young lady a $50,000 (US) living stipend. As a result, the winners will be able to bring Rebound Liberia to life.
With a similar successful PEACE project already accomplished, the group plans for Rebound Liberia to become a peer-to-peer summer sports program. Click the link to learn more details about the ladies and their project.
