Liberia’s 4×100 men’s and women’s teams were on full display during the first round of the relay events at the 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana. Both groups delivered stellar performances, securing their spots in the finals; setting the stage for an intense battle for podium positions.

Men’s round one

The men clocked an impressive time of 38.86 to finish second in their heat, a tenth of second shy of Liberia’s national record. Ghana edged out Liberia with a time of 38.67 in the same heat. Nigeria ran a time of 38.70 in heat two ensuring their spot in the finals as well.

With the third fastest time in round one, the men are poised to challenge the top contenders, Ghana and Nigeria, in the finals and vie for gold.

Women’s round one

Meanwhile, the women’s 4×100 team also delivered an exceptional performance, crossing the finish line first in heat 1 with a time of 43.73. Led by Ebony Morrison, the women’s team ran the fastest qualifying-time of round one. With such an impressive start, Liberia’s women’s relay team has set the bar high for the finals.

“During our team meeting prior to the event, I mentioned to the team that people may not know who all of you are at the moment, but when we leave, they will. It’s time to battle” head coach Sayon Cooper told Go Team Liberia.

 

Where to watch

The stage is set for a thrilling showdown. In both the men’s and women’s category, Nigeria and Ghana emerge as Liberia’s top competitors in the finals.

Liberia’s 4×100 women’s and men’s relay teams will compete again today, at 2:20 p.m. EST/7:20 p.m. GMT and 2:35 p.m. EST/ 7:35 p.m. GMT, respectively. Ghana Broadcasting Corporation will be live streaming.
