The Liberia Football Association (LFA) held a press conference on Nov. 1 to announce the nominees for its third consecutive LFA awards ceremony. It honors Liberian football coaches, players, teams, journalists and for the first time ever, the fans. During the nomination period, Oct. 12 to Oct. 28, the LFA encouraged players, coaches, the media and the public to participate in the process by submitting their choices. The award ceremony will be held at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town on Dec. 3, 2022.

Voting process

The awards ceremony recognizes men and women who have influenced Liberian football, during the 2021-2022 season. There are seven overall categories that the public will vote on: Most Valuable Player, Best Coach, Best Defender, Fan of the Year, Journalist of the Year (Print), Journalist of the Year (Social Media), and Best Referee. The remaining categories like Highest Goal Scorer, Fair Play, and Best Goalkeeper will be determined using technical statistics by the competition department. The LFA will distinguish male and female winners from Division I, Division II, and Upper League. Voting is now open and will end on Nov. 21. To vote, text the nominee’s name and category to Orange short code 523.

And the Nominees are

The awards committee announced the 45 nominated individuals. The nominees for the most valuable player (MVP) in the male category are Sidiki Kromah (Invincible Eleven), Sheku Sheriff (LISCR FC), and Farsedu Logan (Watanga FC). The best female MVP nominees are Bountou Sylla (Determine Girls), Edwardline D. Jackson (Ambassadors FC), and Pauline Agbotsu (Determine Girls). Click here to view the full list.

“This is all about players. It’s about appreciating our players. Celebrating our players who worked hard during the season […] Our responsibility as a football association is to promote, develop, and protect” Mustapha Raji, LFA President said.

Prizes

The winners will not only hold the title of being the best but also receive a monetary award ranging from 100,000 LRD to 400,000 LRD.  The LFA also revealed the prizes for the male and female MVP award will be two brand new Kia’s provided by Orange Liberia.
