Today Beijing launched the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in the same stadium as the 2008 Summer Games. This historic moment makes Beijing the first city to host a Summer and Winter Game. Though Liberia is not one of the five African countries represented at the winter event, the country does have history with the city. Here’s a look at the 2008 Liberia Olympic Team in Beijing.

In 2008, Liberia sent three athletes to the Beijing Summer Olympics. The trio competed in several athletic events. Jangy Addy, who also acted as the flag bearer, represented Liberia in the decathlon. In his Olympic debut, the two-time Olympian ranked 19. Kia Davis competed in both the 200 and 400 meters race. She placed sixth and seventh in her heats, respectively. Lastly, Siraj Williams ran the 400 meters race where he finished eighth in his heat.

While the world celebrates winter sports and athletes, Liberia looks back at the 2008 Liberia Olympic Team in Beijing nearly 14 years ago.
